Literature Text

I used to know another time
human seemed the only way
the old way, that tired rhyme
could never say what I have to say

because you
you become my life
and we know it's true
life apart is strife

just thought I knew wild
seeing pictures in textbooks
my human life unfairly mild
rescued by a fox with looks

you're the world to me
defining dreams and having hope
when I sleep it's you I see
finding paradise if we elope

just thought I knew love
the happy ending to search for
and never find, a myth from above
the legend is real and I need more

because you
you become my life
and we know it's true
life apart is strife

there is a story of yours and mine
a legend of the vulpine kind
for in the rain the sun does shine
in a dream that at last we find

written in the grand epic of life
is a legend of rare passions
through conflict and strife
uniting species by emotions

become my life and we live the dream
in the wilderness of this new love
where this moment does seem
to last forever through power above

because you
you become my life
and we know it's true
life apart is strife

we live in this new time
being red fox is my way
the new way, in this living rhyme
for what I knew all along and have to say

that I love you for all of time
Lyrics for my song "Become My Life" and any musical adaptations (C) foxstory 2011. This makes me want to learn piano now, or find someone who might compose the instrumental component of this song.

I had an English I Honors teacher in my freshman year of high school who said that if you put certain scenes into writing, you insult the intelligence of the reader. It says that you doubt the ability of the reader to infer and imagine what you didn't write.

So what should I say about this? I wrote it in the early hours of the morning, when the house is silent and I think most sincerely. Some of the lyrics are taken from a fragment of a song written last August, when I last attempted this endeavor.

Background knowledge to help with understanding the song. From the Wikipedia article "Sunshower", consider this: "One animal, the fox, crops up all over the world[citation needed], from Kerala to Japan (Japan also refers to it as 'Kitsune (the fox) takes a bride') to Armenia; there’s even an English dialect term, "the foxes’ wedding", known from the south west of England. In Calabria, Italy, it is said: "When it rains with sun, the foxes are getting married.”

But I'll let you interpret this song as you see fit. I love getting comments, and I take the time to reply with a response longer than "Thank you".

Also, I believe that my novel would benefit from having songs in it, because even if it is not adapted to become a movie, they still communicate more than prose. This is my first finished "song"- The Fursona Ballad was more of a lyric poem. But this is absolutely meant as a real song. Is it any good? Would my novel benefit if each major character "composed" a song for him or herself to deliver at a point in the book, if they were of this quality songwriting? Some could be about traveling on a long journey, trying to understand one's identity, or fighting for a cause one believed in.

Thanks for reading, and I hope to see your comments!
