Literature Text

Ah, you and I both
meet again and again
helicase being loath
to rend what's within
To align so fine
is not quite divine
but purely purine
pairing pyrimidine
Caution, friend, our places differ
as I travel here, you journey there
when growing 5' to 3' by dNTP transfer
Gaps yet complementarity everywhere
being antiparallel by nature confers
this enduring alignment ever so rare
In which a particularly close friendship is compared to the two helices of double stranded DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid).  In terms of information, each strand is reciprocal to the other.  Though the nitrogenous bases are in close proximity and held together by hydrogen bonds, each of the two DNA helices is a separate molecule not bound to the other helix by any covalent bonds.  The four nitrogenous bases- purines (Adenine and Guanine) and pyrimidines (Thymine and Cytosine) are hinted at by capitalization in the poem.  The two strands are extended in opposite directions to each other, hence their antiparallel designation.  You can learn more about helicase, 5' to 3' elongation, and dNTP from any decent molecular biology webpage.  Mostly, I wanted to speak to the concept of a connection between two who are distinctly different from each other but compatible/complementary at the same time.  This is another Shakespearean sonnet, with near-rhyme in lines 5-8 based on the manner of pronunciation.

ah I like it so much:D
I like things related to science in general....
it's interesting that you have associated DNA elements with friendship too:aww:
that's nice:)
