Lauren, I never asked for this you know
when I dreamt of fox life in the wild
it's with human artifice that I see my dream defiled
all the trials, travels, and travails- why must it be so?
I must confide I might leave you, her, and just go
she thinks you're an alpha, that's how you're styled
after your latest triumph, how the vixen smiled
do you need a fox like me to doubt and delay?  I think no–
Byron, never doubt how much we need you
to challenge, to question, to keep our wild canid spirits high
it's your own longing that for each of us was the start
that you journey with us through it all keeps our aim true
if you see fit to desert us, our pack is nigh
united by your shared dream, we'll never be apart
This is another Italian, or Petrarchan sonnet.  The octave (two quatrains with rhymes abba-abba) proposes a question or problem which is addressed by a sestet (two tercets) that uses a different style or tone than the previous part of the poem.  In this case, I've decided to use two different speakers, each of whom addresses the other.  For the second part, I chose the cde-cde rhyme pattern.  Anyway, this sonnet reflects how Lauren seeks to encourage her friend Byron, who expresses doubts about the journey which they take part in together.  The unnamed third character (Silvia) is apparent if one is acquainted with a basic knowledge of the story, but I didn't want to detract from the focused dialogue by introducing a third name in the sonnet itself.

I often feel that I can express thoughts and feelings (even those of my OCs) in a more unrestrained manner when I'm working in poetry rather than prose, since I can focus on aesthetics and the flow of sentiments/themes rather than sentence structure, scenes, and the plot.

I really like this poem and the way it's set up. ^^ I've never been very good at poetry, so I'm pretty jealous of your writing skills.
